Whether you’re planning to walk, cycle or explore the historic local towns & coast of Sussex, The Sportsman Inn is a superb base. Set exactly 1/2 way on the Southdowns Way between Winchester and Eastbourne, in picturesque Amberley village (the ‘Pearl of Sussex’), in the heart of the Southdowns National Park.

All the best attractions of Sussex are right on the door step, so why not plan a days racing at nearby Fontwell or Goodwood? If speed is more your style visit the world famous Goodwood Motor Circuit – all within a 10 – 15 minute drive. Beautiful Arundel is 5 miles away with its Castle, Cathedral, Wetlands and unique shops. Historic Parham House & gardens are just a walk away and the Roman town of Chichester with its theatres, markets and cathedral is just 15 minutes away by car. The pretty market towns of Petworth, Midhurst & Storrington are all nearby.

Petworth boasts the magnificent Petworth House and Park (designed by Capability Brown) as well as many antique shops. Midhurst hosts Gold Cup Polo and offers a range of independant shops and boutiques. Amberley Working Museum is a short walk away, or why not spend the afternoon on a cruise of the Arun river, or fishing at nearby Chalk Springs Trout Fishery?

The Sportsman Inn is an award winning freehouse with a history that dates to at least 1706. They offer a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere in which you can enjoy our superb local ales, fine wines and locally sourced, homemade food – from pub favourites to gourmet meals. All while you enjoy the stunning views of Amberley Wildbrooks and the Southdowns. 5 en-suite rooms are all individually decorated and have views across the Wilbrooks towards Pulborough RSPB Nature reserve or of the Southdowns.Perfect for bird watchers & nature lovers! All rooms have TV, tea/coffee making facilities and power showers. Breakfast is served in the conservatory restaurant and you can choose from a hearty full english (with locally produced sausages, award winning black pudding & local free-range eggs) or a selection of contenental dishes. Short breaks at special rates are available mid week from October – March.
